S/Race Equipe SL 12 + I12 GW

The Equipe SL 12 is Salomon's slalom race ski, sold as a set with the I12 GW binding on a race plate. Salomon builds it for high-level skiers who want short, slalom-like turns on groomed slopes and rates it for advanced skiers.

Two titanal layers (0.6 and 0.4 mm) around an ash and poplar core give rebound and grip, and Salomon's new PowerControl System sets cork into the titanal to damp vibration as speed rises. A 7° sidewall angle helps it snap into turns.

Key features

  • Double Ti — titanal on each side of the core for precision and edge grip on hard snow
  • PowerControl System (PCS) — cork inserts in the titanal damp vibration and keep the ski stable at speed
  • I12 GW binding — Salomon's World Cup binding recipe in a system binding, with tool-free length adjustment

Questions

Posées en magasin, réponses de nos ajusteurs

What length should I get?

Our Find my length tool starts from your height: advanced skiers about 3 cm under their height; plus 4 cm if you're heavier than most people your height, minus 4 if lighter; minus 3 more if you mostly carve. Example: an advanced skier 170 cm tall who mostly carves gets about 164 cm, so the 165. We carry 160, 165 and 170 cm.

Is this ski right for my level?

It's for advanced skiers: Salomon built it for high-level skiers who want short, slalom-like turns on groomed slopes.

Is it for groomers, all-mountain or powder?

Groomed runs. Salomon made it for short, slalom-like turns and says it excels on groomed slopes. Its 68 mm waist is in the 66–80 mm range we suggest for mostly groomed Ontario runs.

Will it hold an edge on icy Ontario groomers?

Yes, hard snow is what it's built for. Salomon gives it two Titanal (metal) layers, 0.6 and 0.4 mm, which it says improve hard-snow grip and precision, plus an ash / poplar wood core, full sandwich 7 mm ABS sidewalls and wide steel edges. Cork inserts in the metal damp vibration.

Does it come with bindings?

Yes. It comes as a set with Salomon's I12 GW race binding (DIN 4–12) on Salomon's P749 race plate; the binding adjusts to your boot length without tools.

Will my boots fit the bindings? What does GW mean?

The I12 GW takes standard adult alpine and GripWalk boot soles. GW means GripWalk: a rockered, rubber-treaded sole that makes walking easier.

Is it a short-turn or long-turn ski? What does SL mean?

Short turns. SL means slalom: Salomon built it for short, slalom-like turns and lists its turn shape as short. The radius is 12 m at 160 cm, 13 m at 165 cm and 14 m at 170 cm.

Can a woman ski this?

Yes. Salomon makes it unisex, so length decides: we carry 160, 165 and 170 cm.

Is it stiff or soft?

Stiff. Salomon doesn't publish a flex rating; this is from independent reviews and ratings.

Do you mount the bindings? Do I need to bring my boots?

Yes, free and the same day at Richmond Hill and Ottawa. We set the bindings to your boots, so bring yours or buy boots with the skis; you check and sign off on the setup in store. Skis we ship go out unmounted.

Does it have rocker or camber?

Salomon's Racing Profile: a little tip rocker (8%), no tail rocker, camber underfoot.

What warranty does it have?

It's covered by Borderline Outdoor's 1-year warranty. If something goes wrong, contact us with your order details.
