This versatile portable heater camping stove offers a dual function, expertly combining both heating and warming capabilities. Powered by infrared radiation technology, it promises efficient and swift heat distribution. Designed with the user in mind, its simple and straightforward maintenance is especially suitable for challenging environments, thanks to features like the pressure regulator valve. The small gas stove is not only easy to set up but is also made for outdoor and well-ventilated use only, making it ideal for activities such as camping, hunting, ice fishing and wildlife watching. Enhancing its user-friendly nature, the stove boasts an adjustable height and angle, and its 1/4'' connector ensures compatibility with tripods for added stability and versatility.

About this item

  • 2-in-1 Functionality: Works both as a powerful outdoor heater and cooker – ideal for heating meals, boiling water or staying warm in cold conditions.
  • Infrared Technology: 1.8 kW / 6,141 BTU/h from a flameless ceramic burner, about 156 g of gas an hour at full output. Suitable for 1-2 people.
  • Steady in the Cold: the pressure-regulator valve keeps output steadier as the canister cools, and there is no open flame for a breeze to blow out. This original Sunflower has no reflector panels (the Sunflower X adds four).
  • Precision & Safety: Stepless flame control for cooking or heating. Valve sits securely off the flame for comfortable and safe use.
  • Compact Design: 818 g; folds to 16.5 x 11.5 x 8.3 cm (18 x 16.7 x 12.5 cm open). Hard carry case included; no tools needed.
  • Expandable Compatibility: Rear with 1/4" tripod connection for flexible placement, e.g. increased heating.

Fuel and safety: EN417 screw-on isobutane/propane canister (sold separately), connected by the hose and pressure-regulator valve; it does not take the long butane cassette. No built-in igniter: light it with a lighter or match. No flame-failure cut-off, so never leave it burning unattended. Outdoor use only, in a well-ventilated spot: never in a tent, ice hut, camper, vehicle or any other enclosed space, and never while sleeping.

FAQ

Questions & answers

Which gas canister does it take?

An EN417 screw-on isobutane/propane canister, the same threaded can as a backpacking stove, in 100 g, 230 g or 450 g. It connects through the hose and the pressure-regulator valve, with the canister standing upright on the ground. It does not take the long butane cassette. We sell Primus Power Gas and the Olicamp four-season mix.

Is it a heater or a stove?

Both. The infrared ceramic burner puts out 1.8 kW (about 6,100 BTU). Stand it on its legs and it boils half a litre in about three and a half minutes in Fire Maple's test, longer in the cold; tip it back onto its handle, about 30 degrees, and it throws radiant heat at whoever is sitting in front of it. There is no built-in igniter, so light it with a lighter or match.

How long does a canister last?

It burns about 156 g an hour at full output, so a 230 g canister gives about an hour and a half (Fire Maple quotes 90 minutes on full and 150 minutes on half power), a 450 g just under three hours and a 100 g about 40 minutes.

Can I use it in a tent or an ice hut?

No. Use it outdoors only, in a well-ventilated spot. It burns oxygen and gives off carbon monoxide, so never run it in a tent, ice hut, camper, vehicle or any other enclosed space, and never while you sleep. It has no flame-failure cut-off, so never leave it burning unattended.

Does it work in wind and cold?

The burner is a flameless infrared ceramic plate, so a breeze will not blow it out the way it does an open flame, and the pressure-regulator valve keeps output steadier as the canister cools. This original model has no reflector panels (the Sunflower X adds four), so set it out of the wind to keep the heat on you. Below freezing use an isobutane/propane mix such as the Olicamp four-season canister, not pure butane, and keep the spare in a pocket.

What is the tripod thread for?

The 1/4-inch thread on the back fits any camera tripod, so you can raise the heater to chest height and aim it at your chair or the fishing hole instead of heating the ground.

How heavy is it and how small does it pack?

818 g, and it folds to 16.5 x 11.5 x 8.3 cm; open it measures 18 x 16.7 x 12.5 cm. It comes in a hard carry case and sets up without tools.

Can I pick it up in store, and can I return it?

Yes to both. Pick up at Richmond Hill, Newmarket or Ottawa when it is in stock there, with canisters from the same shelf. Unused stoves in original packaging can be returned within 14 days; items discounted more than 39% are final sale.
