A canister-gas heater for the campsite that also cooks. The upgraded Naturehike outdoor heater (item CNH22CJ014) screws onto a standard threaded isobutane/propane canister, the same can as a backpacking stove, and throws 2.4 kW of radiant heat from the mesh burner inside the cage, 2.7 kW at maximum: enough to warm the people sitting around it on a cold evening at the site, on the porch or beside the ice hut. The flat top holds a pot or kettle up to 5 kg, so the same flame makes the morning coffee.
The canister screws in from underneath and hides inside the base, so 110 g, 230 g and 450 g cans all work; Naturehike asks for blends with no more than 25% propane. Open the gas at the knob, press the ignition switch on the side of the base and the burner lights; then set the flame anywhere between MIN and MAX. The wire handle lifts it in one hand, and at about 1.5 kg it packs in any car camping bin.
Safety: outdoor and well-ventilated use only, as Naturehike's own instructions state. It uses oxygen and gives off carbon monoxide, so never run it in a closed tent, camper or vehicle, and never while sleeping. Naturehike lists no flame-failure or tip-over cut-off, so never leave it burning unattended. Keep fabric, chairs and children a metre clear of the cage and remove the canister for transport.
