Our Story
Borderline Outdoor is an Ontario ski, snowboard and outdoor store with three locations, in Richmond Hill, Newmarket and Ottawa, and an online shop that ships across Canada. The name comes from the line between city and wilderness: we sell gear that works on the hill and at the campsite, and still makes sense on the way home.

How it started
Borderline started on a ski trip during a Toronto snowstorm. Our founder, William, was dealing with mountain cold while thinking about the city he would drive back to that night. He wanted gear that did both jobs, without switching kit and identity between two worlds.
That question became a shop. We set out to find outdoor brands that combine real performance with good design, from established names to small makers that few Canadian stores carried.
What we do today
- Three stores in Ontario. Richmond Hill is our flagship and main boot fitting centre. Newmarket and Ottawa (Nepean) serve York Region and the Ottawa area.
- Winter: skis, snowboards, boots, bindings, helmets, goggles and outerwear for adults and kids.
- Summer: tents, sleeping systems, camp kitchens and hiking gear.
- Online: free shipping in Canada on orders over $149, and same-day store pickup for items in stock.
How we choose brands
We carry brands skiers and riders already trust, such as Atomic, Salomon, Elan, Fischer, Kästle, Faction, Smith, Oakley and POC. Next to them, we bring in emerging labels from Asia and Europe that bring something new in fabric, fit or design. Every brand on our walls is one our staff would use themselves. See all brands.
Set up in store
We fit and set up what we sell at our Richmond Hill and Ottawa stores. Boot fitting is free with boots, and bindings are mounted free and the same day with any skis or snowboard you buy from us (bring your boots). Returns work at any of our three stores within 14 days. Our services.
