About the Prodigy series

The Prodigy Series returns this anniversary season with a brand-new design language. "CHASM" by Parade Studios, evokes geological strata, crevasses, and topographic cross-sections. Inspired by the virtual voxel world and the natural world, it's as if each Prodigy ski carries within it an alternative imprint of the terrain beneath you. A brand-new color palette pairs with this new design across this best-selling ski series. We've kept the Prodigy's secret recipe of poplar wood, progessive flex, and underfoot carbon-rubber reinforcement, so it remains a first-pick across a wide range of freeskiers and ability levels.

Questions

Asked in store, answered by our fitters

What length should I get?

Our Find my length tool starts from your height: intermediates about 8 cm under their height; plus 4 cm if you're heavier than most people your height, minus 4 if lighter; minus 5 more if you mostly ski the park. Example: an intermediate skier 170 cm tall who mostly skis the park gets about 157 cm, so the 157. We carry 150, 157, 164 and 171 cm.

Is this ski right for my level?

Faction rates the Prodigy 0 for intermediate skiers. It's Faction's entry point into freeskiing: easy to use, with a light core for playful, effortless skiing around the mountain.

Is it for groomers, all-mountain or powder?

All-mountain and the park. It's an all-mountain twin tip: a narrower tail than tip for skiing down the mountain, turned up at the tail so you can ski switch. Faction rates it 6/10 for both all-mountain / carving and park and 4/10 for powder. At 85 mm it's wider than the 66–80 mm we suggest for mostly groomed Ontario runs.

Will it hold an edge on icy Ontario groomers?

Faction says its full-strength sidewall underfoot and elliptical sidecut give high-performance edge hold and easy steering, with traditional camber underfoot and XL edges.

Does it come with bindings?

Yes. SYS means Faction sells it as a system: Salomon M10 GW bindings come with it in a separate box. They aren't mounted at the factory; we mount them in store.

Will my boots fit the bindings? What does GW mean?

Yes. The Salomon M10 GW (max DIN 10) takes both standard alpine and GripWalk boot soles. GW means GripWalk: a rockered, rubber-treaded sole that makes walking easier.

What do Prodigy, 0 and SYS mean?

Prodigy is Faction's freeskiing twin-tip series, and the number goes up as the skis get wider: Prodigy 0 is 85 mm, 1 is 88, 2 is 98, 3 is 106 and 4 is 116. SYS means it's sold as a system with bindings, here Salomon M10 GW.

Is it stiff or soft?

Faction rates the flex 6 out of 10, a bit softer than the Prodigy 1, 2 and 3 (7/10). Its Mustache Flex is stable underfoot for edge hold and smoother in the tips and tails to soak up bumps.

Do you mount the bindings? Do I need to bring my boots?

Yes, free and the same day at Richmond Hill and Ottawa: the bindings arrive in their own box, not mounted at the factory. We set them to your boots, so bring yours or buy boots with the skis; you check and sign off on the setup in store. Skis we ship go out unmounted, with the bindings boxed.

Does it have rocker or camber?

Tip and tail rocker with traditional camber underfoot (about 3 mm, per Faction's spec sheet), for edge hold, easy turn starts and float in soft snow. Its Fusion Wood Core puts light poplar underfoot and foam in the tips and tails for a light swing weight.

What warranty does it have?

Faction gives a two-year warranty on this ski. If something goes wrong, contact us with your order details.
