Camping North of Newmarket: 4 Easy Weekend Spots

Borderline Outdoor Newmarket store interior with camping gear

Newmarket sits in a lucky spot: head north on the 404 or Highway 11 and you hit Lake Simcoe cottage country before your coffee goes cold. Four parks we send customers to most, all reservable through Ontario Parks.

1. Sibbald Point Provincial Park — ~30 min

The closest classic: Lake Simcoe beach, big campground, good for a first night in a new tent. Weekends book out — go midweek if you can.

2. Mara Provincial Park — ~50 min

Small and calm, on the east side of Lake Simcoe near Orillia, with a shallow sandy beach that's easy with young kids.

3. McRae Point Provincial Park — ~55 min

Mara's bigger neighbour on the same shoreline. More sites and more room to spread out when Mara is full.

4. Bass Lake Provincial Park — ~1 hr

Just west of Orillia on a warm, small lake — a solid pick for paddling and quiet evenings.

Before you go

Check your tent, sleeping setup and camp lighting a few days early — or grab a ready-to-go camp bundle and skip the checklist. More ideas: campgrounds near Richmond Hill and our tent buying guide.
