Treat it as a roomy two. The floor is 210 x 180 cm, so two adults on regular pads have room for a pack between them; three fit only if everyone is on narrow pads and the packs stay in the vestibule or the car.

How heavy is it and how small does it pack?

3.2 kg (7.1 lb) packed to 41 x 17 x 17 cm, about the size of a rolled sleeping bag. That is a weekend-backpacking weight, not an ultralight one: fine split between two people, heavy for one.

Can I sit up inside?

Yes, at the centre. Peak height is 120 cm, so you can sit up in the middle and change clothes; it is a sleeping tent, not one you stand in.

Is it OK for Ontario shoulder-season rain?

Yes. The fly is PU-coated polyester rated 2,000 mm, which handles sustained rain when the fly is guyed out tight. It is a 3-season tent: spring to fall, not for snow loads.

How long does one person take to pitch it?

About 10 minutes the first time and under 5 once you know it: a classic pole-and-clip dome with two crossing poles, then the fly clips over. One person can do it alone.

Will it fit in a backpack?

Yes. At 41 cm long the bag fits horizontally in a 50 L pack or strapped under the lid; poles can travel separately down the side.

How do I keep it from mildewing?

Dry it fully before storing, even after a dry trip (condensation collects on the fly), and store it loose, not compressed in the stuff sack. Wipe the floor and let the zippers dry open.

Can I pick it up in store, and can I return it?

Yes to both. Order online and pick up at Richmond Hill, Newmarket or Ottawa when the colour you want is in stock there. Unused tents in original packaging can be returned within 14 days; items discounted more than 39% are final sale.

The Cold Mountain 3 feels well-built and stable once fully pitched. It handled light wind and overnight conditions without any problems. Setup is manageable and becomes easy with practice.
