Common questions
Borderline fittersAtomic's size guide: for kids aged 2 to 5, choose a ski that reaches just below the chin; for 6 to 12, the tip should reach the middle of the forehead. Beginners usually do better a little shorter. Atomic made this ski for ages 3 to 5; we carry 80 and 90 cm.
It's for young beginners: Atomic made it for kids aged 3 to 5 and rates it beginner.
The build is the same: Densolite core, Bend-X flex zone, Dura Cap construction, the same age ranges and lengths. The Redster J2 has Atomic's Race Rocker (mostly camber) for quick, carving edge changes and the red Redster look. The Maverick J has All Mountain Rocker (an early-rise tip) for easy turn starts on and off the piste, and the look of the adult Maverick skis.
Groomed runs: it's a junior ski from Atomic's Redster piste and race family, with a Race Rocker and V-shape that make turning effortless.
About
Redster J2 70-90 + C 5 GW
The junior Redster: the kids' version of Atomic's piste and race family, with the same red Redster look as the adult skis. Atomic made the 70–90 cm sizes for ages 3 to 5.
Bend-X Technology is a soft flex zone underfoot so even light kids can bend the ski and keep the edges on the snow, and the Race Rocker profile (mostly camber) gives quick, controlled edge changes. A Densolite core keeps it light and Dura Cap construction keeps it durable, which matters when skis get handed down. Comes with Atomic's C 5 GW binding.
Key features

Questions
Asked in store, answered by our fitters
What length should I get?
Atomic's size guide: for kids aged 2 to 5, choose a ski that reaches just below the chin; for 6 to 12, the tip should reach the middle of the forehead. Beginners usually do better a little shorter. Atomic made this ski for ages 3 to 5; we carry 80 and 90 cm.
Is this ski right for my child's level?
It's for young beginners: Atomic made it for kids aged 3 to 5 and rates it beginner.
Redster J2 or Maverick J: what's the difference?
The build is the same: Densolite core, Bend-X flex zone, Dura Cap construction, the same age ranges and lengths. The Redster J2 has Atomic's Race Rocker (mostly camber) for quick, carving edge changes and the red Redster look. The Maverick J has All Mountain Rocker (an early-rise tip) for easy turn starts on and off the piste, and the look of the adult Maverick skis.
Where is it meant to be skied?
Groomed runs: it's a junior ski from Atomic's Redster piste and race family, with a Race Rocker and V-shape that make turning effortless.
Does it come with bindings?
Yes. It comes with Atomic's C 5 GW CA kids binding: release values (DIN) 0.75–4.5, for skiers of about 10–45 kg, with an easy step-in for little skiers.
Will my child's boots fit the bindings? What does GW mean?
Yes, kids' and adult alpine boots and GripWalk boots: Atomic says the C 5 GW CA fits both alpine norms (children's and adult) and GripWalk soles, for boot soles 197–256 mm long. GW means GripWalk: a rockered, rubber-treaded sole that makes walking easier.
What do Redster J2, 70-90 and C 5 GW CA mean?
Redster J2 is the junior ski in Atomic's Redster piste and race series, and 70-90 is the length range of the model (we carry 80 and 90 cm). C 5 GW CA is the kids binding: GW means GripWalk-compatible and CA means it fits children's and adult boot norms.
Is it soft enough for a light child?
Yes. Atomic's Bend-X Technology is a special flex zone underfoot, so light skiers and children can bend the ski for easy turning.
Do you mount the bindings? Do I need to bring the boots?
Yes, free and the same day at Richmond Hill and Ottawa. We set the bindings to your child's boots, so bring them or buy boots with the skis; you check and sign off on the setup in store. Skis we ship go out unmounted.
Does it have rocker or camber?
Atomic's Race Rocker (5/95/0): strong camber for precise edge grip, with an early-rise tip for easier turn starts.
What warranty does it have?
Atomic gives a 2-year warranty on this ski. If something goes wrong, contact us with your order details.
