Common questions
Borderline fittersOur Find my length tool starts from your height: advanced skiers about 3 cm under their height and experts about 2 cm over; plus 4 cm if you're heavier than most people your height, minus 4 if lighter; minus 3 more if you mostly carve. Example: an advanced skier 160 cm tall who mostly carves gets about 154 cm, so the 155. We carry 155 and 162 cm.
It's for advanced and expert skiers, per Atomic's rating.
Pick by turn shape first. S8: slalom shape for short, tight turns (11.7–13.8 m radius). G9: giant-slalom shape for long, open turns (15–18 m), with the most technology of the three: Revoshock S steel damping, a Carbon Boost insert, Ultrawall sidewalls and the race plate. X7: in between, a multi-radius sidecut for short and long turns (13–15.1 m), on Atomic's Pro Trak plate. All three are race replicas: race-ski feel built for the piste, for advanced and expert skiers.
Groomed runs: Atomic purpose-built it for quick slalom turns on the piste. Its 69 mm waist is in the 66–80 mm range we suggest for mostly groomed Ontario runs.
About
Redster S8 Revoshock C + I 12 GW
A slalom race replica for skiers who want quick, tight turns on firm groomers. S is Atomic's slalom shape (an 11.7–13.8 m radius by length) and 8 sits one step below the G9: the same race plate, Power Woodcore and Titanal layer (TI Powered).
Instead of the G9's steel Revoshock S it uses Revoshock C, which takes out vibration and keeps the ski calm and quick edge to edge, and it does without the G9's Carbon Boost insert. Dura Cap sidewalls hold the edge through every phase of the turn.
Key features
- Revoshock C — takes out vibration for a calm, stable ride and quick edge-to-edge changes
- TI Powered + Power Woodcore — the Titanal insert and wood core tune damping and torsional stiffness
- Dura Cap Sidewall — base-to-topsheet sidewalls that hold the edge in every phase of the turn
- Icon Flex Interface — the same binding interface as the G9

Questions
Asked in store, answered by our fitters
What length should I get?
Our Find my length tool starts from your height: advanced skiers about 3 cm under their height and experts about 2 cm over; plus 4 cm if you're heavier than most people your height, minus 4 if lighter; minus 3 more if you mostly carve. Example: an advanced skier 160 cm tall who mostly carves gets about 154 cm, so the 155. We carry 155 and 162 cm.
Is this ski right for my level?
It's for advanced and expert skiers, per Atomic's rating.
Redster G9, S8 or X7: which one?
Pick by turn shape first. S8: slalom shape for short, tight turns (11.7–13.8 m radius). G9: giant-slalom shape for long, open turns (15–18 m), with the most technology of the three: Revoshock S steel damping, a Carbon Boost insert, Ultrawall sidewalls and the race plate. X7: in between, a multi-radius sidecut for short and long turns (13–15.1 m), on Atomic's Pro Trak plate. All three are race replicas: race-ski feel built for the piste, for advanced and expert skiers.
Is it for groomers, all-mountain or powder?
Groomed runs: Atomic purpose-built it for quick slalom turns on the piste. Its 69 mm waist is in the 66–80 mm range we suggest for mostly groomed Ontario runs.
Will it hold an edge on icy Ontario groomers?
Yes. Full camber (Active Camber) grips on icy slopes, a Titanal layer (TI Powered) and Power Woodcore add stability, Dura Cap sidewalls keep the edges locked in, and Revoshock C absorbs chatter.
Does it come with bindings?
Yes. It comes with Atomic's I 12 GW binding (max DIN 12) on Atomic's Icon Flex Interface. Atomic says its free-gliding plate, fixed at the heel, lets the ski bend under your boots for grip along the whole edge, and the toe and heel adjust without tools.
Will my boots fit the bindings? What does GW mean?
Yes, standard alpine boots and GripWalk boots: GW in Atomic's binding names marks GripWalk compatibility. GripWalk is a rockered, rubber-treaded sole that makes walking easier.
Is it a short-turn or long-turn ski?
Short turns. S marks Atomic's slalom shape for fast, tight turns, and Atomic lists its turn style as short. The radius is 12.4 m at 155 cm and 13.1 m at 162 cm.
What do Redster, S8 and Revoshock C mean?
Redster is Atomic's piste and race family, and S8 is its slalom-style model here. Revoshock C is Atomic's damping, which eliminates vibration for more stability and quick edge-to-edge skiing. I 12 GW is the binding.
Is it a men's or women's ski?
It's a unisex ski: Atomic lists it as unisex, so pick by length. We carry 155 and 162 cm.
Do you mount the bindings? Do I need to bring my boots?
Yes, free and the same day at Richmond Hill and Ottawa. We set the bindings to your boots, so bring yours or buy boots with the skis; you check and sign off on the setup in store. Skis we ship go out unmounted.
Does it have rocker or camber?
Full camber: Atomic's Active Camber (0/100/0), which increases edge contact for better edge grip on icy slopes and stability.
