Common questions
Borderline fittersBoth. The firebox takes full logs for an evening fire, and the grill grate sits on top so you cook over the same fire. Take the grate off and it is a plain campfire.
Firewood first, charcoal if you want quick coals for cooking. No accelerants: a fire stick or starter cube is enough.
Keep it off decks and dry grass unless you put paving stones or a heat shield under it, because the base gets hot enough to scorch. Gravel, sand, a fire ring or bare earth are the safe spots. Outdoor use only.
Usually not. Most Ontario municipalities and parks treat a wood pit as an open fire under a ban, and campgrounds set their own rules, so check the local by-law or the park office before you light it.

Questions
Asked in store, answered by our fitters
Is it a fire pit or a grill?
Both. The firebox takes full logs for an evening fire, and the grill grate sits on top so you cook over the same fire. Take the grate off and it is a plain campfire.
What can I burn in it?
Firewood first, charcoal if you want quick coals for cooking. No accelerants: a fire stick or starter cube is enough.
Can I use it on a wooden deck or on grass?
Keep it off decks and dry grass unless you put paving stones or a heat shield under it, because the base gets hot enough to scorch. Gravel, sand, a fire ring or bare earth are the safe spots. Outdoor use only.
Is it allowed during a fire ban?
Usually not. Most Ontario municipalities and parks treat a wood pit as an open fire under a ban, and campgrounds set their own rules, so check the local by-law or the park office before you light it.
How many people does it cook for?
Five or six, with the biggest and longest fire of the three Takibi sizes. If you cook for two or three, the medium is a fraction of the weight and packs much smaller.
How do I clean it, and will it rust?
Let it cool, tip out the ash and wipe the firebox; the grate scrubs like any barbecue grate. The stainless parts discolour with heat; the iron parts will surface-rust if stored wet, so dry it before it goes in the garage.
How does it pack for the car?
It folds flat to 52 x 52 x 7 cm, but it is the heavy one at over 10 kg, so plan on a two-hands lift into the trunk. Open, it is 51 x 47 cm and 43.5 cm tall.
Can I see it in store, and can I return it?
Yes. Order online for same-day pickup at Richmond Hill, Newmarket or Ottawa when it is in stock there. Unused pits in original packaging can be returned within 14 days; items discounted more than 39% are final sale. Once it has had a fire in it, it is yours.
