A tabletop wood stove with a long glass window, for the camp table and for hot tents set up for a stove. The Naturehike Icefield Ranger (item CNK2300CW021) is a 40 × 18 × 30 cm firebox in 430 and 201 stainless steel with a Schott glass side window rated to 800 °C, a flat top for a kettle or a pot, and two perforated shelves that fold out to 44 cm across to keep food warm and hang mugs. A damper on the front door and a vent underneath set the size of the fire, the ash tray slides out on a wire rail, and solid wood feet keep the base's heat off a tabletop. At 8.1 kg, with the four chimney sections and the ash rake stored inside the firebox and the shelves folded against the sides, it is built for car camping, winter basecamps and hunting camps rather than for carrying far.
Safety: Naturehike's instructions rule out cars, campers and closed rooms, because a wood fire makes carbon monoxide, which has no smell, and ask for a flat, firm surface at least 1 m from anything flammable, out of strong wind. With the four chimney sections it ships with (about 1.3 m tall) it is an outdoor stove. Naturehike also sells it for hot tents, and there it needs a tent with a factory stove jack and a longer chimney: Naturehike recommends 8 to 10 sections, more than 2 m in total, and the pipe must clear the tent roof, with an anti-scald sleeve where it passes through the jack and a spark-arrestor cap on top. Run a CO alarm, keep fabric and bedding clear, and never leave it burning while everyone sleeps. The body, glass and pipes stay hot long after the flames die down, so keep children away.
