Is the Commander 185 a hot tent?
Yes. The fly has a stove jack, a heat-resistant port for a wood-stove chimney, so you can run a tent stove inside and camp in it through the winter. The stove is sold separately. Bring your stove pipe diameter when you buy, or ask us in store, so the pipe and the jack match.
What comes in the box, and what is sold separately?
In the box: the fly, a detachable hexagonal floor, six equal-length aluminum poles, 20 stakes, nine guy ropes and the carry, pole and stake bags, about 11.4 kg in all. Sold separately: the inner tent, the front vestibule and the roof tarp, listed here as the Ceiling. Add them under Made for this tent.
Do I need the inner tent?
Only if you want a closed sleeping room. Without it the Commander is a floored dome: the hexagonal floor lies inside the fly. The optional inner tent is 300 × 260 × 170 cm with its own 150D floor rated PU 4,000 mm, weighs about 2.1 kg and clips in under the fly.

A freestanding geodesic dome for base camps you drive to. Six equal-length aluminum poles cross in Dyneema-reinforced sleeves to make a hexagonal dome 380 × 330 cm across and 185 cm high in the centre. The fly is 70D 230T nylon, silicone-coated outside and PU-coated inside, with a snow skirt outside and a mud guard inside. It stands on its own before it is staked, so you can lift it and move it to the right spot.
What you get, and what is extra: the fly, a detachable hexagonal floor, the six poles, 20 triangular aluminum stakes, nine reflective guy ropes and the carry, pole and stake bags: about 11.4 kg in a 62 × 27 × 27 cm bag. The inner tent (a closed sleeping room with its own floor), the front vestibule and the roof tarp are sold separately; add the ones you want under Made for this tent.
Hot tent: the fly has a stove jack for a wood-stove chimney, so the Commander 185 works as a heated winter shelter as well as a summer base-camp dome. Stove sold separately; match your stove pipe to the jack. Run a stove only with the chimney through the jack, a vent open and a carbon monoxide alarm, never an open fire or an unvented gas heater. In wind, stake all 20 points and set all nine guy ropes; dry the fly and floor before you pack them away.
