Common questions
Borderline fittersOur Find my length tool starts from your height: advanced skiers about 3 cm under their height and experts about 2 cm over; plus 4 cm if you're heavier than most people your height, minus 4 if lighter. Example: an advanced skier 175 cm tall gets about 172 cm. This listing comes in 174 cm only.
It's for advanced and expert skiers. Elan pitches the Black Edition as its top-performance all-resort ski, and its skill chart starts at advanced and runs to the top.
Groomers and variable snow. Elan says its wider all-mountain footprint handles both groomed pistes and variable conditions and terrain. At 86 mm it's wider than the 66–80 mm we suggest for mostly groomed Ontario runs.
It has Elan's top all-resort construction: a titanal (metal) layer with carbon rods and UD carbon, and PowerLine reinforcement along each ski's cambered inside edge for grip. Elan calls it stable at high speeds.

Questions
Asked in store, answered by our fitters
What length should I get?
Our Find my length tool starts from your height: advanced skiers about 3 cm under their height and experts about 2 cm over; plus 4 cm if you're heavier than most people your height, minus 4 if lighter. Example: an advanced skier 175 cm tall gets about 172 cm. This listing comes in 174 cm only.
Is this ski right for my level?
It's for advanced and expert skiers. Elan pitches the Black Edition as its top-performance all-resort ski, and its skill chart starts at advanced and runs to the top.
Is it for groomers, all-mountain or powder?
Groomers and variable snow. Elan says its wider all-mountain footprint handles both groomed pistes and variable conditions and terrain. At 86 mm it's wider than the 66–80 mm we suggest for mostly groomed Ontario runs.
Will it hold an edge on icy Ontario groomers?
It has Elan's top all-resort construction: a titanal (metal) layer with carbon rods and UD carbon, and PowerLine reinforcement along each ski's cambered inside edge for grip. Elan calls it stable at high speeds.
Does it come with bindings?
No, it's sold flat (ski only), so you choose the binding. Pick one whose brake is at least as wide as the 86 mm waist.
Will my boots fit? What does GW mean?
That depends on the binding you add. For GripWalk boots, choose a binding marked GW (GripWalk-compatible); standard alpine boots fit any alpine binding.
Is it a short-turn or long-turn ski?
Medium turns. Elan's turn radius is 16 m on the 174 cm (14 m at 160 and 15 m at 168), between a short-turn slalom ski and a long-turn GS-style ski of the same length.
Is it a men's ski?
Elan makes the Wingman as its men's all-resort line; the women's line is the Wildcat. Anyone can ski it if the 174 cm length fits.
Can you mount bindings on them? Do I need my boots?
Yes, when you buy bindings with them: mounting is then free and the same day at Richmond Hill and Ottawa. We set the bindings to your boots, so bring yours or buy boots with the skis; you check and sign off on the setup in store. Skis we ship go out unmounted.
Does it have rocker or camber?
It uses Elan's Amphibio profile: camber along the inside edge for grip and rocker on the outside edge for easy turning, so the left and right skis are different.
Is this the current model?
Yes. Elan carries the Wingman 86 Black Edition over into its 26/27 range, in flat and Fusion X binding versions.
What warranty does it have?
Elan gives a 2-year warranty on this ski. If something goes wrong, contact us with your order details.
